Cement sales in Southern Africa fell 0,7% year-on-year (y/y) in July to 1,368m tons from a 1,9% y/y fall in June, data from the Cement and Concrete Institute showed on Friday.
The institute noted that July 2008 sales had one more sales day than July 2007 and if the increase in the number of sales days is taken into account, sales per day were 5% lower than July 2007.
Sales are down 2,3% at 8,625m tons on a year to date basis after being down 2,6% in June.
Exports to other countries excluding Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia fell by 7,6% to 30,504 tons, bringing total exports sales since the beginning of the year to 92,487 tons - down 20,8% on the year-to-date sales last year.
The moving annual total in southern Africa was down 0,6% y/y in July to 15,117m tons. – I-Net Bridge
