Cement sales in Southern Africa fell 1,9% year-on-year (y/y) in June to 1,308m tons, data from the Cement and Concrete Institute showed on Monday.
The institute noted that June 2008 sales had one fewer sales day than June 2007 and that if the decrease in the number of sales days was taken into account, sales per day were 3% higher than June 2007.
Sales are down 2,6% at 4,538m tons on the year to date basis.
Exports to other countries, excluding Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia, fell by 40,2% to 7,589 tons, bringing total exports sales since beginning of the year to 61,981 tons - down 26% on the year-to-date sales last year.
The moving annual total in southern Africa was up 0,1% y/y in June to 15,125m tons. – I-Net Bridge
